Graphical abstract design for journal submissions

A graphical abstract is a single, self-contained visual summary of a paper: the question, the approach and the main finding, readable in under ten seconds without the text. Most journals now request one at submission, and it is the version of your work that circulates on social media, in newsletters and in conference slides.

The design problem is compression. A paper has dozens of results; a graphical abstract can carry one storyline. The work is deciding which result is the paper's contribution, and then building a left-to-right or top-to-bottom reading path that makes that contribution unavoidable.
